In school, we are encouraged to work together & brainstorm through group projects and discussions. This is to help us expand our viewpoints, and gain perspective on the project and our different ideas.
Unfortunately, they don’t teach you to keep doing this AFTER graduation. Or apparently not many people were listening during that lesson.
In today’s dog-lowballs-dog world, everybody is too pre-occupied, or in some cases proud, to share control with a peer. How can you see what’s around you with your nose pressed to the grind stone?
Most people are content at talking and engaging with each other. But what happened to WORKING together. Let’s bring back the “Labor” in “Collaborate”. In fact, you will find that effective collaboration actually REDUCES labor. SWEEETTT.
Organizations like AIGA really stress this idea of WORKING together. Bringing people together, and then encouraging and embracing the idea of collaboration.
So stop killing yourself, thinking you have to be a one-man design firm. Reach out to your peers. Remember, you can’t spell “Collaboration” without “labor”
