“Just Do It!” – Nike
In an earlier post, we talked about the Creative Process and the steps different individuals took when creating.
But there is DEFINETLY a time when thinking becomes OVER-thinking. When it’s time to just pull the trigger and execute.
A recently read article over at Design Sojurn touched on this brilliantly.
More after the Jump.
In the article, a professor discovered that after splitting the class in half and assigning one half the task of creating the MOST ceramics, and the other half creating the SINGLE BEST ceramic that the best ones actually came from the Quantity group.
” Well, came grading time and a curious fact emerged: the works of highest quality were all produced by the group being graded for quantity. It seems that while the “quantity” group was busily churning out piles of work—and learning from their mistakes—the “quality” group had sat theorizing about perfection, and in the end had little more to show for their efforts than grandiose theories and a pile of dead clay.”
The Quality group suffered from over-thinking and poor execution. Quantity in this case taught the students what produced the best results and what mistakes to avoid.
Sometimes all it takes is putting pen to paper, hand to keyboard.
Stop thinking, stop worrying, and trust yourself.
