5 things I’m thankful for

In the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday that recently passed, we all take a moment to reflect on the things we are thankful for in our lives.

Typically we forget about these things, and take for granted the blessings we have in our lives. Thanksgiving, more commonly referred to as Turkey Day, should be more than eating more than your weight in turkey, stuffing, and potatoes. These times should be gathering with friends and family, enjoying time together and being grateful for the many things we have that are positive in our lives, as many of us can tend to fixate on the negatives.

So after recovering from the tryptophan induced coma of yesterday’s banquet, I took sometime to figure out just a few of the things I am thankful for this year. Below are just 5 of the many things I’m thankful for this year:

1) The Basics - Food in my stomach. Clothes on my back. A roof over my head. Friends and family that care about me. Not too much to elaborate on here. As long as I have these things, I’ll always be content.

2) The Business - The first full year of business is under my belt, and it’s been a great experience. Am I rolling in the cheddar? No. But I’ve become wealthy in knowledge and my cup of experience has only begun to be filled up. Most people don’t have businesses, many have lost theirs. Ill chalk this first year of marginal profitability in the win column.

3) The Tweeps - Variety is the spice of life. Thanks to Twitter and Facebook, and the events and opportunities both of them have provided have peppered my life with numerous different people, of all walks of life, ages, industries, and more. Technology as it’s meant to be used, connecting people across vast distances in an instant (or longer depending on your connection). There are too many people to shout out but here are just a few of my peoples: Luke Hodsdon, Brandon Jaime, Steve Averill, Henie Reisinger, Anthony Xavier, Calvin Lee, Candice Cendana, Paul Tran, All of the #140crew, The Dizon’s, & The Chavers.

4) The Past - I wouldn’t be where I am today without the choices, good or bad, that I’ve made in the past. A life without regrets is a life well lived. I’ve learned to appreciate the past and anticipate the future.

5) The Future - 2010 is going to be a kickass year. I’ve got so much excitement, ideas, and energy for it to be here I can barely wait. As the days of 2009 wind down, my mind speeds up, thinking about all of the things I have to do to prepare to make 2010 the best it can be.

All wonderful things for which to be thankful! As for me, I’m thankful for my family, my companion animals, all the basics that you mention above, the ability to move about freely without assistance or pain, my sight and hearing, Tofutti cuties and great faux meat alternatives, my internet connection which has allowed me to meet new people via Twitter, my bi-weekly unemployment checks (which will hopefully be replaced by payroll checks in the near future), for dappled sunshine in November, and the freedoms I enjoy that people in other countries are not allowed to possess.

    Have a great holiday season!
