What I learned from #140conf

I was fortunate enough to have been able to attend the “#140 Conf in LA”, held at the Kodak Theatre on the 27-28th.

What I walked away with was some FANTASTIC connections with some genuine characters (shout out to @ciaobella50 @earthxplorer @bethfryzstak @lorimoreno @mayhemstudios @anythinganthony and more!) and hearing some mind-blowing and touching stories of Social Media applications.

Hit the jump for a few of my thoughts. You can read the rest of my thoughts over on OC Register’s Social Sunday write-up!

1) You can run, but you can’t hide. If you aren’t already on social media, your life at some point will be touched by it. If you’ve flown Virgin America, or eaten at Kogi BBQ (@kogibbq) then you aware of this.

2) No more middle man. Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, etc, are all contributing factors to the removal of the walls and layers of communication between businesses and their consumers. Real time feedback, real time solutions, real time engagement.

3) The 4 E’s of customer service. Engage your market by asking questions and listening to answers. Excite your costumer base by promoting products through contests, giveaways, and specials. Educate your customers by spreading information of products/services. Evangelize your company by simply doing the above 3. Spread the gospel of your company, build a congregation of fervent, loyal customers. (courtesy of Jeffrey Hayzlett, CEO of Kodak)

Interesting. Tweetups and the like ARE very useful. I like your design. Very modern and easy to navigate. Good stuff!

Thanks for the feedback! Conferences offer tons of ways to engage and connect with people beyond a keyboard and computer screen!

Considering there were two days of nonstop info at the conference, I like the points that you’ve chosen to highlight above.

The unprecedented level of access to people via Twitter, and the amazing power the medium has to sway public opinion, improve customer service, and transform strangers into tribes is nothing short of amazing.

Sorry we didn’t meet at #140conf, but hopefully we’ll cross paths IRL soon!

140 speakers packed into 2 days was crazy but awesome.

Glad you enjoyed the points I pulled out, I feel that those are the most relevant towards me.

People going to learn “strategies” and “plans” of how to use Twitter, need to first learn how to be engaging and genuine. Dig the tribes comment, apparently you’ve read or heard of Seth Godin lol.

Yes, I completely agree. I tried to focus on some of the same basics on my #140conf blog post.

P.S. I don’t think it is a coincidence that the word “God” is in Godin’s name. Love that guy!
