What happens when a major car company decides to launch one of it’s new car models to the public by GIVING AWAY 100 of them including free gas for 6 months? Well you get the Ford Fiesta Movement.
This highly successful promotion by the Ford Motor Company was a perfect example of big business using various social media outlets to passively, and very effectively, market their product. Agents like Chris Thompson (supricky06) and Jonathan Nafarrete (@jonathan360) were all given various missions to carry out and record, in addition to documenting their daily adventures in the Fiesta. What resulted was a HUGE collection of photos and videos of people loving their Ford Fiesta, culminating in last nights launch party of the Ford Fiesta 2011.

With camera in tow, and the homie Danny (@mexicandude) riding shotgun, we rolled out to the #Fiestamovement party being held in Hollywood at the recently re-done and very nice venue, The Hollywood Paladium. The event was already underway and buzzing with excitement as spotlights and ford custom Ford Fiestas lined the sidewalk. The inside of the event was packed with people and I within 5 minutes of walking around the event I was greeted with a bunch of familiar faces (@smaknews, @hennartonline, @louiebaur, @ribizee) including the fantastic Stefanie Michaels (@adventuregirl). The attendance of this event really showed the genuine interest that the Fiesta Movement had sparked up within the social media community, auto community, and media.
With the announcement of the Fiesta Agent awards about to be announced and the Fiesta Sedan 2011 yet to be revealed, we strolled the venue some more, looking at some of the new Ford Fiesta 2011 models and generally taking in the excitement in the air as drinks were drank and conversations were had. And what’s an social media event without the man Calvin Lee (@mayhemstudios) seen here with 2 more rockstars of Twitter, Jim Weiler (@weileycoyote) and Mark Horvath (@hardlynormal). Randomly enough we even ran into some long lost friends from my high school and college days which just made this event even sweeter.
Once the Fiesta Agent awards, presented by Jake and Amir of Collegehumor.com, were handed out, we all crowded the stage to see the winners of categories such as Best Travel Mission, Best Body of Work – Photos, Best Social Activism Mission, and the overall People’s Choice award, which was presented to Courtney Force (@courtneyforce). All of these awards were voted on through the Fiesta Movement website, were fans, friends, and families of the agents could go on and place their votes for each of the categories.
Overall the event was a great time. The turnout and support of the agents and the movement was awesome, and a great lesson for any business out there in how to engage your fans and potential clients effectively through all of the social media channels available. Don’t forget to check out the Ford Fiesta Movement to learn about all of the agents and their crazy missions in the Ford Fiesta 2010!
