Fonts! Free Fonts! Get ‘em while they’re hot!
If you’re a designer, you know how important the right type can be. Great design and great typography go together like peanut butter and jelly. It can give your piece that extra little something that brings it all together. As designers we also know how expensive those perfect fonts can be or how hard it can be to find a high-quality free font. However, if you’re reading this post, then Christmas has come early for you friend. We’ve compiled a list of 5 high-quality FREE fonts for you to download and use to your typographic pleasures!
The first of what is to be a weekly series, we’ve saved you the trouble of scouring the vast space of the internet and will be bringing you high-quality fonts simply because we like you just THAT much!

Niland [click here to download the font!]
The first of 3 slab serif fonts in this list, Nilland is a powerful font because it comes with 6 different font family styles consising of 6 weights, regular, bold, extra bold, black, small caps and small caps bold. The ability to control the thickness of the characters allow for this font to be used across multiple formats. Although not recommended for body copy, with proper kearning and leading, Niland could be used throughout a layout from headline to text.

Madawaska Extralight [click here to download the font!]
Our second highlighted slab serif font comes in 7 weights with fractions, old style numerals & lining numerals making it the most versatile of the slab serif fonts. It’s thin and thick fonts make for great display type and subheadings, but unlike we don’t recommend it to be used at small sizes for body copy. But don’t let that stop you from trying!

Junction is a clean and tight san serif font that can fit both headline and body copy duties. It contains both upper and lower case letters but only has 100 total characters. Junction boasts very elegant curves and sharp lines which allow this font to be easily read at any size. A perfect solution for any designer looking for a font with multiple uses.

Chunk [click here to download the font!]
If you’re in need of a big, bold type solution, Chunk may just be what the doctor ordered. The large slab serif font is perfect for any of your display type needs, but is not recommended when used at smaller sizes. Reminiscent of old Western wanted posters, Chunk is perfect for headlines on posters, postcards, or even in book layouts as the main title headlines.

Apparatus SIL [click here to download the font!]
A very useful, subtly serif font, Apparatus includes 4 weights: Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic and the design of the font allows for optimum quality at any size making these a strong choice for anybody looking for a versatile body font.
